"From the classroom to a career - Students gained some insight and inspiration from a panel full of professionals. Pace University partnered with the non-profit One Hundred Black Men of NY for the fourth annual Junior 100 Pathways to Success Career Day yesterday. Students got to speak with panelists, who included people working in law enforcement, public service, the medical industry and more. Junior 10 Pathways to success program is a 16-week youth development program for high school juniors and seniors.
Background:
Pace University, in partnership with One Hundred Black Men of NY, Inc. hosted the fourth annual Junior 100 Pathways to Success Career Day on Saturday, March 17, 2018. The Junior 100 Pathways to Success program is a 16-week youth development program for high school juniors and seniors. Pace University’s Office of Government and Community Relations and Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems has partnered with One Hundred Black Men of NY since 2015 to co-host this unique program. Nearly two dozen student scholars take part in a weekly Saturday morning curriculum (every other week at Pace University) that is focused on college readiness, financial literacy, life skills, ballroom dancing, and entrepreneurship training with a strong emphasis on the integration of technology in business. The program meets every Saturday, January through May.
Panelists included:
- Matthew Washington, Deputy Borough President;
- Jessica Walker, President and CEO, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce;
- Malcom Butehorn, Legislative Counsel at the NY City Council;
- Kenny Wynder, Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association; and
- Dr. Babacar Cisse, a neurological surgery professor at Weill Cornell.
