Sponsored Research: Grants Clearance Process

We encourage you to contact us early on in the proposal preparation process – we can help with the development of budgets, compilation of supporting materials, and general trouble-shooting. Prior to submission, all proposals must have approval from the Department, Dean’s Office, Corporate and Foundation Relations (if applicable) and Office of Research. The same process should be followed regardless of whether Pace University is the lead institution or a sub-awardee/sub-contractor for the proposal.

Complete a Grant Proposal Clearance Packet, which includes:

  • Grants Clearance Form (DOCX), signed by the Principal Investigator and any other Pace-affiliated senior personnel (e.g., Co-PI, Co-I);
  • A project summary/abstract (1 page or less);
  • A detailed budget.

Department Approval
The clearance packet should be routed to the relevant Department Chair(s)* for their approval/signature. An email from the Chair can be substituted for a signature.

Dean’s Approval
Following department approval, the clearance packet is forwarded to the relevant Dean’s Office(s)* for College/School Approval.

*Please note: If the senior personnel for the project are from different departments or schools, approval is required from all relevant Department Chairs and Dean’s Offices.

Corporate and Foundation Relations Approval (if applicable)
If submitting a proposal to a foundation, the grant clearance form should be signed by Susan Cergol, Director, Corporate and Foundations Relations for Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Office of Research Approval
Once all relevant signatures/approvals have been obtained, the packet should be emailed to the Office of Research. When Avrom Caplan, Associate Provost for Research, has signed off on the form, the proposal has been officially “cleared” for submission.
