Pace University has appointed Tom Murray, executive director of Conference and Event Services, to the role of Coronavirus Testing Manager. He is responsible for managing our testing efforts across all three campuses. Kim Cotignola, RN, is coordinating tracing and response efforts for the University. Questions regarding Pace’s Community-Testing Program may be sent to the COVID Coordination Officer, however private health information and lab results should only be shared with University Health Care (UHC) and must never be sent through email. Please upload any private health information to UHC’s confidential patient portal.
All members of the Pace Community are able to participate in community testing, however, if you are not fully vaccinated, weekly testing is a requirement in order to maintain access to campus and/or reside on campus. Weekly testing reminder emails will be sent to those who are required to participate in community testing. Some groups may still be required to test based on on-campus and community trends, and tests will remain available for all those, whether vaccinated or exempted, who would like one. Here’s how to participate in community testing at Pace.
To ensure that we’ll be able to reopen our campuses as planned, we will require all faculty, staff, and students coming to campus to be vaccinated against COVID-19 for the Fall 2021 semester, except for those who are unable to be vaccinated for medical or religious reasons. This includes both residential and commuter students who come to campus. Fully online students will not be subject to this requirement.
Proof of vaccination must be uploaded to the confidential Patient Portal by August 1, 2021. If you do not get vaccinated and do not have an approved exemption, you will not be permitted to physically access campus. To request a vaccine exemption for religious or medical reasons please submit a completed Religious Exemption form (PDF) or Medical Exemption form (PDF).
To request an extension to comply with vaccine requirements, please submit a completed Extension Request Form (PDF). For members of the Elisabeth Haub School of Law, please submit the Law School Extension Request Form (PDF).
Check Your Status in the Patient Portal
If you've uploaded your documentation (e.g., proof of vaccination, request for exemption, or request for extension) and are unsure if you are approved to come to campus, simply follow the steps below.
- Log-in to the confidential patient portal with your Pace username/password
- Click on the tab labeled “Immunizations” at the top of the page
- Click the “View History” link on the drop down that pops up
- Compliance status appears in RED on the webpage that opens. If the document has been fully processed/approved, the following text will appear, “Overall Status: Compliant, Verified”.
- All students (both residential and commuter), staff, and faculty will be required to complete a daily screening questionnaire related to symptoms and exposures in the past 14 days, even if you are vaccinated. The screening questionnaire is available to everyone in the Pace Community via the PaceSafe mobile app. If you do not have a smartphone and are unable to use the PaceSafe app, please access our web-based daily health questionnaire.
- All on-campus members of the Pace Community, on days they are on campus, will be required to monitor their health, check their temperature, and complete the screening tool's questionnaire daily. The University will monitor and review responses on a regular basis.
- In the screening questionnaire, you can expect to answer several questions daily, including:
- Have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 14 days?
- Have you experienced any symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 10 Days
- Have you followed country specific CDC travel guidance if returning from international travel?
- If not fully vaccinated, have you been in close contact with someone with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days?
- Residential students must complete the screening tool’s questionnaire daily, even if they do not plan on leaving their residence hall room.
- Be prepared to show an approved status after completing the screening to Security upon entering campus buildings.
- Stay in if you do not feel well, have a fever, or do not pass your daily health self-assessment. Contact University Health Care or your healthcare provider if you are experiencing symptoms.
- If you do test positive for COVID-19 from off-campus testing, notify University Health Care by phone immediately.
- Pace’s Coronavirus Coordination Officer will work with Pace’s University Health Care Unit and the local health departments’ contact tracers to identify students, faculty, staff, or visitors who may have had close contact with someone who is confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to that person testing positive.
- The Coronavirus Coordination Officer will communicate with the local health authority regarding its contact tracing and follow its guidance and recommendations.
- The Coronavirus Coordination Officer, University Health Care, and/or the local Department of Health will notify Pace Community members and visitors about confirmed positives as necessary and appropriate, discuss recommendations of the local health authority, and determine whether exposed community members will need to quarantine before they can return to campus.
As of August 13, 2021, Pace University is requiring face coverings to be worn indoors on all our campuses. We are also encouraging face coverings outdoors, in situations when distance cannot be maintained. We will re-evaluate this policy as conditions change. Face coverings will be required for all individuals on the Pace shuttle and in the University Health Care clinics.
Appropriate use of face coverings is critical in minimizing your risk of transmission and to others near you. Read the CDC's guide to face coverings.
- Pace University requires that individuals on campus, regardless of vaccination status, wear appropriate face coverings any time they are in any campus building (e.g., common areas, cubicles, meeting rooms, classrooms, etc.), and at all times as directed by Pace signage.
- Pace University will provide reusable cloth face coverings to all students, faculty, and staff.
- Approved face coverings include but are not limited to cloth, surgical masks, and face shields.
- Face coverings will also be required for all individuals on Pace shuttle buses and in University Health Care.
- Ensure the face covering fits properly over your nose and under your chin.
- Store face coverings in a paper bag when not in use.
- Do not share your face coverings.
- Wash cloth face coverings with regular laundry detergent before the first use and after each use, and do not use for more than one day at a time.
- Replace cloth face coverings immediately if they become soiled, damaged (e.g., ripped, punctured) or visibly contaminated.
- Do not use disposable face coverings for more than one day, and place them in the trash after use, or if they become soiled or damaged (e.g., stretched ear loops, torn, or punctured material) or visibly contaminated.
Please note: Face coverings that incorporate a one-way or exhalation valve (typically a raised plastic cylinder about the size of a quarter on the front or side of the mask) are designed to facilitate easy exhaling and are not an acceptable face covering on campus. Such respirators and face coverings are not effective in reducing the spread of COVID-19. See the examples below of face coverings that would not be permitted for use:
Face Shields: A face shield is primarily used for eye protection for the person wearing it. At this time, it is not known what level of protection a face shield provides to people nearby from the spray of respiratory droplets from the wearer. There is currently not enough evidence to support the effectiveness of face shields for source control. Therefore, the CDC does not currently recommend use of face shields as a substitute for face coverings.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
It's especially important to wash:
- Before eating or preparing food
- Before touching your face
- After using the restroom
- After leaving a public place
- After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
- After handling your mask
- After changing a diaper
- After caring for someone sick
- After touching animals or pets
If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Pace’s Facilities team will continue to maintain the cleanliness of the university campuses and follow state and CDC guidelines.
- The Facilities team will clean all high-touch surfaces (i.e. doorknobs, faucets, railings, light switches, elevator buttons) at least twice a day.
- In dining halls, sanitation of all station counters and common areas will be done every 30 minutes.
- Pace campus facilities will be cleaned and disinfected as appropriate daily by the Facilities team.
- Classrooms, including desks and workstations, will be deep-cleaned by the Facilities team every evening.
- While the Facilities team will be responsible for thorough cleaning, it is expected that all faculty and staff maintain clean work areas and wipe down any areas before and after use with cleaning supplies that are provided in each classroom or other work area.
- The Facilities team will also adjust the mechanical infrastructure to increase fresh air flow, adding efficient filtration, utilizing UV-C technology to combat infectious particles, and controlling temperature and humidity.
Occupancy: Signage will be posted in all rooms noting the maximum occupancy. With relaxed restrictions and vaccination rates on campus, areas will return back to original occupancy levels.
Shielding: Partitions or barriers have been installed and will remain in place as needed in spaces that include face-to-face customer service, such as in classrooms, the Information Desk, Bursar’s Office, Registrar’s Office, Financial Aid Office, and Mail Services.
Pace is committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. To the extent that protocols are not followed by any individual on campus, Pace reserves the right to take disciplinary action against students, faculty, and staff, as well as removing any visitor from the premises. These actions may involve Student Life, Human Resources, and Safety and Security.
- To the extent that Pace allows outside individuals onto campus for events such as lectures, conferences, or athletics events, Safety and Security shall be responsible for monitoring/enforcing face covering protocols.
- Safety and Security will ask all visitors prior to entry to complete an online screening questionnaire.
- On at least a weekly basis, Emergency Management shall review activities from the prior week and along with Safety and Security, and University Health Care, assess any areas in need of new or increased protocols to ensure a safe environment.
