NYSED edTPA Safety Net Eligibility

edTPA Safety Net Has Been Extended to September 2022

The edTPA Safety Net has been extended through the 2021-2022 academic year. The following candidates are now eligible for the edTPA safety net.

New York State Candidates in Spring 2020 through Summer 2022 terms

Candidates who complete a student teaching or similar clinical experience* during the above terms while enrolled in a New York State educator preparation program (EPP). These candidates must be submitted on a dean’s list to the Office of Teaching Initiatives (OTI), verifying that they could not complete their edTPA submission as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Clinical experiences within registered programs include Student Teaching, Internships, and Trans B in-service components.

The edTPA Safety Net is not the same as the COVID Certificate.

Candidates who meet the eligibility requirements above for the edTPA safety net may pass the Assessment of Teaching Skills – Written (ATS-W) exam in lieu of passing the edTPA. Either version of the ATS-W exam (Elementary or Secondary) is acceptable. The Pace Certification Officer will compile a list of all ELIGIBLE registered students in student teaching or similar clinical experience and send the list to the NYSED. The edTPA safety net list is updated at the END of each term. Alumni that have graduated BEFORE Spring 2020 are NOT ELIGIBLE for the edTPA Safety Net as per NYSED regulations. Please DO NOT ask the Director of Certification to add you to the list if you are not eligible. Graduated before Spring 2020 and need to finish the edTPA?
