Congratulations to Coral DiMichele on being a 2019 recipient of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) scholarship! Coral is a Junior Childhood Education major with a concentration and minor in mathematics, on our Pleasantville campus. She is also a member of the Pforzheimer Honors College, Future Educators Association and Pi Lambda Theta education honor society.
AMTNYS awards four annual scholarships to future elementary school teachers with a concentration in mathematics and secondary mathematics teachers. These awards are presented to outstanding undergraduates who meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled in a Teacher Education program in New York State;
- Completed at least 18 credit hours of mathematics;
- Have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.25.
Awards are based on a committee evaluation of each student's achievements throughout their academic program, as well as their involvement, and contribution to their school and mathematics community.
The Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State (AMTNYS) was founded in 1951 and currently has about 2,100 members statewide. AMTNYS, its Affiliate Organizations, and the New York State Education Department, represents a driving force in the area of mathematics education in New York State.
