The Xander Pretorius Spirit Award

Xander was a third year BA acting student in the International Performance Ensemble at Pace University, New York. He was most recently featured in Silence (The Tank), South Pacific (The Dare Tactic), Dracula A.D. 2015, playing the lead as Dracula himself (Gooey Films) and he was a creator/ performer in youexistrightnow, presented at Theatre Row in New York City as well as Chulaongkorn University in Bangkok Thailand. His other successes include featuring in the ‘Speak Daggers’ music video, a commercial advert for TomTom and being part of North America Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) campaign.

Xander’s passion for life was evident and his light was contagious to everyone around him. There was no accent he did not attempt to conquer, nor any physical skill he did not challenge. He was an actor, model, singer, dancer (Capoeria, ballet, ballroom & aerial); and a guitar piano, saxophone and harmonica player. In addition he was tri-lingual, loved swimming, playing golf and tennis. His massive love for animals extended to volunteering at a dog-rescue organisation in Brooklyn. He focused on being present in every moment in order to capture the very essence of the relevant emotions and lessons to utilise in his art of acting.

Xander believed in skipping instead of walking, he believed in bear hugs above a ‘wave hello’ and ultimately he believed in living over existing. His love for people was well known as he believed in motivating and igniting flames within people, always urging them to pursue their dreams. Xander believed in challenges and he believed in recognising blessings over luck.

Xander is currently the brightest star in heaven, most likely doing what he loved most – performing. He went a legend and has left behind an immortal legacy.
