University Health Care (UHC) was the first nurse-managed primary care center in an academic institution implemented through a school of nursing. Others have used it as a model, nationally and internationally.
A full range of primary health care services are offered to Pace University students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their families. UHC is staffed by advanced practice nurses and Certified Medical Assistants with physician consultants. UHC provides a needed service to the Pace community while also providing nursing students excellent clinical experiences. UHC has been providing low-cost, high-quality health care since the 1970s.
The University Health Service Fee, in conjunction with your health insurance, will cover UHC office visits for sickness and accidents. UHC is able to bill your insurance directly. Diagnostic tests and procedures may incur additional charges.
Services available for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and their families include:
- health education
- health assessment with complete physical examinations
- women's health care
- diagnosis and treatment of illnesses such as sore throat, cough, or other infections
- first aid for minor injuries
- management of chronic health problems such as high blood pressure
UHC recognized for cost efficiency
Pace’s University Health Care is proud to announce that it was recognized by health insurance company Cigna and was placed in the top category for cost-efficiency measures. The results—three out of three stars—were displayed in the Cigna directory beginning January 1, 2013.
Audrey Hoover, MSN, FNP-BC, WHNP, RN, Director of Pace University Health Care Units (UHC) in New York City and Pleasantville, said, “The staff at UHC is dedicated to ensuring we provide top quality, affordable care to the University community; we have been doing so since the 1970s.” She notes that UHC was one of the first nurse-run and nurse-managed university health care centers in the nation. “The University acted with foresight and innovation when it supported the establishment of UHC—it was a unique venture at the time. Other universities have since adopted our model as their own,” she said.
Audrey Hoover wins preceptor of the year award
Audrey Hoover, director of University Health Care, was awarded the prestigious preceptor of the year award on September 10, 2015, at the graduation ceremony for the physician assistant program.
Student Catherine “Beach” Silver presented the award saying, “Clinical preceptors are essential to the education and growth of the next generation of healthcare providers. The ideal preceptor is knowledgeable, constructive, and inspiring. These characteristics are embodied by our 2015 Preceptor of the Year, Audrey Hoover, a family-women’s health nurse practitioner and director of the Pace University Health Care unit.”
Audrey later said, “I am surprised and humbled by this award. The pleasure truly has been mine to have been a part of the mutual learning exchange of precepting such astute clinicians. Your professors are amazing teachers. You have also contributed to the UHC practice by creating patient education handouts as the need arises. Our clients feel at ease in your presence and ask for you by name. Thank you and congratulations. The PA profession eagerly awaits you!” Audrey also thanked her colleagues at UHC for all they did to help her as a preceptor, saying, “A big thanks to the UHC team, Julie Putt, Dainelle Robinson, Noren Fromm, and Malgor Kazmierczak who played a major role in the awesome experiences that you have had.”
