All candidates for the NYS Initial certificate are required to complete the following workshops for program completion (graduation) and NYS certification. Candidates who seek Professional certification must complete the DASA workshop if they have not done so for the Initial certificate.

Proof of completed workshops is required for graduation.

DASA Training Information (Pace TCH 211D)

Individuals must complete the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) training workshop for educator certification in New York State. The training addresses harassment, bullying, and discrimination prevention and intervention in schools. The Workshops section in your TEACH account will list this workshop if you have taken and passed TCH 211D here at Pace or took it with another approved provider. The DASA Workshop MUST be listed on TEACH regardless of where you completed it.

DASA Workshop not listed on your TEACH account?

  • Individuals who have not completed the DASA training through Pace (TCH 211D) must have the approved provider send the workshop completion to TEACH. If the provider is unable to send completion information to TEACH, the training is NOT acceptable. Please send a screenshot of your TEACH account (workshop section) notifying your Pace advisor that they were completed elsewhere.
  • Current students that recently passed TCH 211D and notice that the DASA workshop is not appearing on TEACH please contact the Pace professor for the workshop (workshop entry requires several weeks or longer, please be patient).
  • Pace alumni noticing that the DASA workshop is missing must send an email with the following information to the campus-specific professor listed below:
    1. Screenshot of the name/address section from TEACH.
    2. Screenshot of your transcript showing the term of completion of TCH 211D.
    3. Any other supporting documents. Please email Professor Smith (Pleasantville) or Professor Pankowski (New York City).

Child Abuse Identification & School Violence Prevention Workshops (Pace TCH 211A covers both)

This training is available only from a provider approved by the New York State Education Department. A list of approved providers is available on the NYSED website. If you received a college recommendation (or will) from a New York State college or university with a degree date of May 2001 or later, NO Certification of Completion will be awarded because the training was a required component of your program. TEACH will automatically credit the workshops (will NOT be listed on TEACH) based on the degree date listed in your college recommendation. However, TCH 211A must be listed on your Pace transcript with a P grade. The Child Abuse Identification & School Violence Prevention Workshops MUST be listed on TEACH ONLY if you did not take TCH 211A here at Pace.

Child Abuse/Violence Prevention Workshops not listed on your TEACH account?

  • Individuals who have not completed the training through Pace (TCH 211A) must have the approved provider send the workshop completion to TEACH. If the provider is unable to send completion information to TEACH, the training is NOT acceptable. Please send a screenshot of your TEACH account (workshop section) notifying your Pace advisor that they were completed elsewhere.

Coursework or Training in the Needs of Children with Autism

Effective with applications submitted after September 1, 2009, all candidates for a Classroom Teaching certificate in all areas of Special Education are required to complete coursework or training from a State Education Department-approved provider of such training. If you are enrolled in a Pace SWD program the workshop is part of your overall program, no course number. If you received a college recommendation from a New York State college or university with a degree date of September 1, 2008, or later, no Certification of Completion will be awarded (will NOT be listed on TEACH) because the training was a required component of your program. If you notice that the Autism workshop requirement was not credited properly on your Professional certificate application, please email NYSED staff. Please be sure to include your full name as it appears in TEACH and either your date of birth or the last four digits of your social security number. NYSED staff will then examine your account to determine whether the workshop can be credited. The Director of Certification can't add the Autism workshop to your TEACH account.
