Research is conducted either with one of our faculty, or through internships at some of the most prestigious scientific, pharmaceutical, medical, and biotech organizations in the world.

Current research areas include; molecular neuropharmacology, neurogenetics, the neurobiology of Alzheimer's disease, autism, pain, neuroendocrine, and other disorders, studies of the cognitive deficits as well as protective factors in depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, stress, and psychosis; clinical assessment of thinking in children, the development of creativity, ego development, developmental outcomes of high risk and premature infants, the impact of gender or sexuality on the psychological experience, the impact of social media, virtual reality and other technologies on our relationships and our underlying needs, the effects of prejudice and discrimination on academic and health disparities, and many other cutting-edge areas.

These research projects have received prestigious funding from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Fulbright foundation, and others. Our students have presented their research at national and international scientific meetings, where they have won impressive awards. Our students have also authored papers in scientific journals, which are typically the achievements of graduate students.

The Department maintains active local chapters of Beta Beta Beta, the national biology honor society, and Sigma Xi, the international scientific research society, which offer scientific-related activities and field trips.
