Bill Oberkehr is the Program Manager for Clean Energy Siting at the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Since Summer 2023, Bill has been a central figure in Governor Hochul’s Inter Agency Fire Safety Working Group (FSWG). In addition to managing New York State’s response to the energy storage system fires last year, Bill focuses on solar and energy storage zoning and codes in addition to providing technical assistance to AHJs throughout the state. He began this work a decade ago as part of NYSERDA’s PV Trainers Network during his tenure at the City University of New York where he also administered New York City’s municipal solar programs. Beyond his technical work, Bill is passionate about facilitating a just transition through community ownership of renewable energy assets.
