Pursue Your JD at Haub Law

The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University offers a full-time and part-time day academic program that provides solid preparation for students who wish to become lawyers. Our JD program offers an integrated curriculum designed to ensure the development of appropriate academic, procedural, and lawyering skills. Students begin their studies in the fall.

Our Paths to Practice approach provides students with a roadmap for pursuing their particular interest in law. Earn an Advanced Certificate in Environmental Law, International Law or Health Law and Policy, or concentrate your studies in a number of legal fields including business law, criminal law or dispute resolution. Through numerous clinical and externship opportunities, students work with real clients and develop the skills they need to practice law and pursue a successful legal career.

Learning Outcomes for the JD Program

These Learning Outcomes represent the professional journey that JD candidates undertake in earning their degree at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. They reflect the knowledge, skills, and values that we impart and expect our students to acquire during their studies. Not every course in the JD curriculum reflects every learning outcome, but we expect the Haub experience to enable our students to learn the following skills:

  1. Know and understand substantive and procedural law.
  2. Be able to read, analyze, apply, distinguish, and reconcile court opinions.
  3. Be able to understand the respective roles of case law, statutes, and regulatory law in our legal system.
  4. Be able to identify legally relevant facts and legal issues, synthesize legal rules, and develop sound legal and policy arguments.
  5. Be able to develop and execute an effective legal research plan that recognizes available technology resources and reflects the significance of precedent and the roles of the courts.
  6. Be able to draft legal and other documents that are accurate, well written, well organized, properly cited, and focused on the relevant audience.
  7. Be able to competently employ the skills of oral and written advocacy.
  8. Be able to competently employ the skills related to client representation.
  9. Understand ethical rules and duties and exercise the special professional and ethical responsibilities to clients, the courts, the legal system, and society.
  10. Understand the basic principles of organization and management of legal work, including available technology.
