The Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University today announced that the 2019 Elisabeth Haub Award for Environmental Law and Diplomacy will be awarded in memoriam to Environmental Defenders who have lost their lives defending their land and the environment from the destructive practices of mining, logging and agribusiness industries, among others. This is the first time the Award has been given to a group, rather than an individual. The award will be given in memoriam at a ceremony in New York City in the spring of 2020.
Record Gift Will Create Endowment, Expand Distinguished Environmental Law Program and Fund Research and Teaching Initiatives
Pace University announced today that its law school has been renamed the Elisabeth Haub School of Law in recognition of its long-standing partnership with the family of the late Elisabeth Haub, a tireless environmental advocate and philanthropist, and a generous donation from the Haub family. The gift, the largest that Pace University has received in its history, will establish an endowment for the Law School, strengthen the school's renowned environmental law program and fund innovative teaching initiatives.
In a WAG Magazine profile, former U.S. Congressman and pioneering environmental leader Richard Ottinger is celebrated for his significant contributions to environmental law and public service. Ottinger, who also served as dean emeritus of Pace University’s Elizabeth Haub School of Law—a program widely recognized for its leadership in environmental legal education—reflects on his career advocating for environmental protection, shaping legal education, and advancing sustainability long before these issues were mainstream.
