Cybersecurity/Ethics For Lawyers

Cybercrime threatens every person and organization. Reasonable cybersecurity is a legal requirement for many and an ethical requirement for attorneys. New York State has a CLE requirement for Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Protection.

In this presentation, John presents his system to build and improve the cybersecurity program in your firm or organization. Every firm needs a cybersecurity program. He lays out three main goals for cybersecurity and information governance, his Four Pillars of Cybersecurity, and his template of a cybersecurity program. The goals are threefold: protect from cybercrime, comply with legal and professional requirements, and improve efficiency.

Rules on security, detection, investigation, and reporting evolve, yet some lawyers, individuals, and organizations may not be aware of basic principles that have existed for some time. Some have not started and don’t know where or how to start. We all need to improve from where we are now.

Lawyers need to take measures to protect themselves, clients, and employees, and advise clients on these complicated issues. All organizations need to take similar measures to safeguard and secure their systems and protect confidential information. We can play a role to properly guide the evolving areas of law with respect to cybersecurity, cybercrime, and privacy.

Incidents may happen even with the best of security, so proper incident response planning is also a requirement.

This presentation is for all attorneys; no technical knowledge or skill is required. One and a half hours of Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Protection - Ethics (“Cybersecurity Ethics”) will be provided for lawyers.

This is a fully interactive, live web conference, and will not be recorded. Registration is required.
