Islanding New York: An Exhibition of Student Work

Join us for Islanding New York, a celebratory showcase highlighting student and faculty projects funded through a recent Mellon Foundation grant. This immersive event explores New York City's rich network of islands—geographical, cultural, historical, and imagined—through creative and academic lenses.
The program begins with a special reading by Lenape poet Rebecca Haff Lowry, whose work honors the land and voices often overlooked in our urban narratives. Throughout the showcase, you’ll discover cross-disciplinary projects that reflect on islands as spaces of connection, resistance, identity, and renewal.
We’ll close the afternoon with a unique boat tour—a symbolic gesture toward reclaiming and re-examining the archipelagic nature of the city we call home.
In a time marked by distance and disruption, Islanding New York reminds us of the powerful work our community continues to create—together and apart.
