Graham Kindred has been a guiding force within the Sands College of Performing Arts for over a decade. After five years as a dedicated faculty member, he was appointed Head of the BFA Production and Design program, where he shaped a bold and innovative curriculum that reflects the evolving landscape of contemporary theater. Through close collaboration with his colleagues and students, Graham has cultivated a program that empowers young artists across all production and design disciplines to define their own creative voices and engage directly with New York's professional theater community.
Now serving as Chairperson of Production and Design, Stage Management, and the International Performance Ensemble, Graham continues to champion experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and artistic excellence—ensuring that the next generation of theater makers are not only skilled, but visionary.
Faculty Bio
Graham Kindred has been a dynamic presence in the New York City theater community for more than two decades. His lighting designs have illuminated stages from Broadway to Lincoln Center to the Off-Broadway scene.
Beyond New York, Graham’s work has spanned regional theaters, national tours, large-scale themed entertainment projects with SeaWorld Orlando, and international collaborations such as the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. Before relocating to New York, he received the Illuminating Engineering Society Design Award for Architectural Lighting in Philadelphia.
As an educator, Graham has shared his expertise in lighting and design for over twenty years, teaching at institutions including Princeton University, City College of New York, The New School for Drama, The Stella Adler Conservatory, and Packer Collegiate Institute. He currently serves as Chairperson of Production and Design, Stage Management, and the International Performance Ensemble at Sands College’s School of Performing Arts, where he continues to mentor emerging artists and advance the craft of storytelling.
He holds a Master of Fine Arts in Design from Temple University.
