Beyond Borders: The Human Purpose of Global Health

The Pace Center for Global Health invites the Pace Community to a lecture and reception in memory of Andrew Rendeiro ’87 on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the New York City Campus.

José Luis Castro, WHO Director-General’s Special Envoy for Chronic Respiratory Diseases and director of the Pace Center for Global Health, will deliver “Beyond Borders: The Human Purpose of Global Health.” Through the lens of COPD, asthma, and other chronic respiratory diseases, Castro will explore the human impact of global health and reflect on Rendeiro’s leadership, service, and lasting contributions to public health worldwide.

Andrew Rendeiro ’87 was a respected attorney whose career grew to encompass a deep commitment to global public health. As chief strategy officer and vice chair of the board of Vital Strategies, he worked alongside Castro for two decades, helping guide the organization’s growth and international public health efforts.

A devoted partner of the Pace Center for Global Health, Rendeiro also contributed his expertise to initiatives around the world, including international journalist training programs focused on chronic respiratory diseases. He brought intellectual rigor, humanity, and a profound commitment to service to work that improved public health across borders.
