Professor Smita Narula elected as a Fellow in the American College of Environmental Lawyers
Professor Smita Narula was invited by the American College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) to become a Fellow in the ACOEL. Professor Narula is among 22 new Active Fellows and two Honorary Fellows elected to membership in the College. The ACOEL notes that “Each individual was selected for his or her distinguished experience, high standards of practice and substantial contributions to the field of environmental law.” Congratulations, Professor Narula! In addition to Professor Narula, two Haub Law alumni were also elected to the ACOEL as fellows – Basil Seggos ‘01 and Marla Wieder ‘93. Read the ACOEL press release (PDF).

Judge Malaika N. Scott-McLaughlin ’09, a Civil Court Judge for the City of New York, was no stranger to the legal world growing up. As the daughter of Professor Randolph McLaughlin, a renowned civil rights attorney and longtime member of the faculty at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, she spent a lot of time observing him in the classroom teaching and in practice advocating.

Professor Gershman writes that the legislation would have expanded opportunities for wrongfully convicted individuals to challenge their convictions, access legal representation, and present new evidence of innocence. He contends that blocking the bill denies a critical pathway to justice for those seeking to overturn wrongful convictions.
