Hidden History of Slavery in New York
Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Division of Opportunity and Institutional Excellence, Pace NAACP, and White Plains/Greenburgh NAACP for a short film screening of The Hidden History of Slavery in New York. The event includes a panel discussion with the filmmaker, Emmy-Award winning Director, Larry Epstein.
The Hidden History of Slavery in New York digs deeply into an infamous chapter in our country that hasn’t always made its way into the history books. The film features Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, and explores how the Transatlantic trade of enslaved people was centered in the north, not the south, in the 17th and 18th century – with New Amsterdam as its epicenter – and Wall Street as its largest market. Journalist Larry Epstein wrote, produced and researched the project, which won an award at the 67th annual NY Emmy Awards.
Refreshments provided by the Gosin Center.
