Publishing: Become the Author of Your Own Story

Develop your Writing Skills and Discover the Publishing Industry

Students will have a unique and immersive opportunity to experience the New York City publishing industry in this hands-on, experiential program. Students will work with publishing industry experts to develop their writing sample into an edited, revised, and polished piece they can use for college applications and beyond. Students will also design a cover and write marketing/social media copy for their work, giving them a robust portfolio of creative work upon completion of this course.

This experiential course will cover topics such as how books and magazine media are edited and published, writing selling and marketing copy, and diversity and inclusion within the industry. To help gain further perspective, students will put their learning into immediate action as we visit a chain bookstore, an independent bookstore, and spend time at one of New York’s well-known publishing houses. Students will truly be the author of their own story when they participate in this engaging and one-of-a-kind program.
