Biography of Robert “Bobby” Ahdieh
President-elect of Pace University
Robert B. Ahdieh, president-elect of Pace University, is one of the most transformational American educational leaders of the past decade. He is an institution-builder who has demonstrated a rare ability to simultaneously elevate academic quality, student outcomes, and institutional standing at scale.
Ahdieh joins Pace University from Texas A&M University, where he served as dean and holder of the Anthony G. Buzbee Endowed Dean’s Chair at Texas A&M University School of Law, vice president for professional schools and programs of Texas A&M University, and chief operating officer of Texas A&M–Fort Worth. Known to all as “Bobby,” he brings a distinctive combination of scholarly rigor, entrepreneurial instinct, and a deep commitment to access and opportunity to Pace.
Ahdieh graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs and earned his JD from Yale Law School. He began his career as a law clerk to Judge James R. Browning of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, then served as a trial attorney in the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice through its competitive Honors Program. He spent nearly two decades at Emory University School of Law, where he held roles as professor, associate dean of faculty, and vice dean, helping guide the school to the highest student quality, diversity, and ranking achievements in its history.
Since becoming dean of Texas A&M Law in 2018, Ahdieh led a dramatic transformation of the institution. Under his leadership, the school climbed from eighty-third to twenty-second national rankings, the most significant rise of any law school in the past 25 years. Enrollment grew more than fourfold, from 458 to over 2,000 students, while post-graduate employment reached 100 percent (the highest rate of any law school in the United States). Bar passage climbed from 73 percent to just shy of 100 percent. The school's budget nearly doubled, moving from annual deficits to a revenue-positive position in less than three years, and annual fundraising quadrupled.
Equally striking is what Ahdieh accomplished without sacrificing mission. Even as incoming academic metrics rose sharply, the racial and ethnic diversity of the student body nearly doubled—a testament to his conviction that excellence and access are not competing values.
His impact was also felt well beyond the law school. As Vice President for Professional Schools and Programs, Ahdieh led graduate enrollment growth across various Texas A&M colleges, including Engineering, Medicine, Architecture, Education, Nursing, and Agriculture. As chief operating officer of Texas A&M–Fort Worth, he developed the vision for and initiated construction of a new $1 billion–plus academic and industry campus, bringing together health sciences, engineering, business, law, and major private sector partners—around research, workforce development, and student-to-employee pipelines.
A scholar as well as an administrator, Ahdieh's research spans financial regulation, corporate, administrative, comparative, and international law. He has held visiting professorships at Princeton, Columbia Law School, and Georgetown University Law Center. His academic expertise has consistently informed his institution-building work at every stage of his career.
Raised in New York City by parents who immigrated to the US in pursuit of educational opportunities, Ahdieh returns to his home city with a personal and professional commitment to offering those same opportunities to new generations of students.
Ahdieh begins his term as President on January 1, 2027.
