Student Leader Positions

Senior Orientation Leader

The Student Engagement Team selects a group of mature, dedicated, and energetic undergraduate student leaders to assist with implementing Orientation programs for the summer. Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as resources for students who are making the transition from their previous environment to the diverse academic, intellectual, and social culture of the University.

OLs are expected to possess a specific body of knowledge about the University acquired through training and experience. They must be interested and skillful in sharing this information with Orientation participants. Selection to the OL team is a unique honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Assist with the planning process of Spring and Summer Orientation sessions.
  • Assist with OL information sessions, interviews, and the OL kick-off.
  • Report directly to Orientation coordinators and to the associate and assistant directors of the Center for Student Engagement.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and guidance to new OLs using previous experience within Orientation as a means to supplement the work.
  • Update the OL Guide to be used as a resource to plan future OL recruitment and training.
  • Carry out specific duties as assigned by Orientation coordinators such as maintenance of dietary restrictions information, task sheets, post-Orientation debrief surveys, and more.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the University to new, transfer, and international students and their families.
  • Answer student and parent questions about social and academic aspects of University life.
  • Work closely with the Center for Student Engagement professional staff to assist and support all aspects of Convocation and Welcome Month programs.
  • Provide administrative support for the program by maintaining office hours each week at the SDACA office.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Experience using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Orientation experience and event planning preferred

Orientation Leader

Qualifications:

  • Exhibit leadership potential and experience;
  • Good academic standing with a minimum grade point average of 2.75;
  • Good judicial standing with no current serious judicial sanctions;
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the University;
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of team members, students, and their families;
  • Must be open-minded and willing to step outside of their comfort zone;
  • Willingness to identify, connect, and retain students at Pace;
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the University's community, programs, policies, and procedures;
  • Demonstrated record of flexibility, responsibility, and willingness to assist others;
  • The skill to manage tasks;
  • The ability to speak publicly in front of large groups of people;
  • The willingness to become an ambassador on behalf of the University; and
  • Be a registered full-time undergraduate student.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Attend and participate in training sessions.
  • Supervise activities while living among new students who are attending Orientation sessions.
  • Serve as a positive representative of the University to new, transfer, and international students and their families.
  • Facilitate new, transfer, and international students' introduction to the University by maintaining open and effective communication techniques.
  • Promote interaction among new, transfer, and international students during small group discussions, icebreakers, meals, and evening activities.
  • Answer student and parent questions about social and academic aspects of University life.
  • Facilitate small group interactions on various topics at Orientation.
  • Facilitate small activities for new students through direct involvement.
  • Work closely and cooperate with other OLs and staff to develop, prepare, implement, and evaluate the Orientation programs.
  • Work closely with the Center for Student Engagement professional staff to assist and support all aspects of Convocation and welcome month programs.
  • Provide administrative support for the program by maintaining office hours each week at the Center for Student Engagement office.
  • Actively participate in committee work and committee meetings pertaining to delegated orientation aspects.

Spirit Ambassador

The mission of a Spirit Ambassador is to inspire school spirit by encouraging the Pace Community to embrace their inner Setter. Right from the start of the academic year, Spirit Ambassadors actively engage with the community by assisting with Weeks of Welcome, promoting the #PaceThursdays initiative, as well as planning and hosting innovative events throughout the year.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Create fun and creative ways to promote Pace spirit and pride through social media outlets (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and more) as well as marketing materials.
  • Plan and facilitate a variety of programs, workshops, tours, and receptions as a part of the Weeks of Welcome offered at the beginning of the fall semester to acquaint new students with the University and New York City area.
  • Brainstorm and develop events for Spirit Week during the spring semester.
  • Directly interact with Pace students on Thursdays during common hour (3:30 p.m.–4:30 p.m.) to boost school spirit by tabling for #PaceThursdays.
  • Develop and demonstrate team leadership, responsibility, and effective communication.
  • Work closely and cooperate with other Spirit Ambassadors and the Center for Student Engagement staff to brainstorm, prepare, implement, and evaluate the spirit events.
  • Report directly to assistant director of Orientation and campus activities.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Be a full-time Pace student, having completed at least one full academic semester at Pace;
  • Willingness to commit to one full academic semester as a Spirit Ambassador; and
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University while maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.5 (prior semester and cumulative).
