Will you proofread my paper for me?
The ultimate goal is for you to become a better writer. If we merely marked your mistakes, you wouldn't learn much from the session. The paper is yours, and should be written by you, not by a writing tutor. However, what we will do is talk about your writing with you, make suggestions, and explain why we made those suggestions. Making changes is your decision.

Do I need an appointment for tutoring?
No, the Learning Commons is mainly a drop-in service. Appointments can be made using Trac Cloud but are not required.

Does the service cost me anything?
No! The service is free of charge and open to all currently enrolled Pace University students.

Is the time limit for a tutoring session?
No, but to ensure maximum success, we suggest sessions no longer than 90 minutes.

What is Trac Cloud and why should I use it?
Trac Cloud is our system that provides you with information regarding who and what tutors are on duty and enables you to view your previous sessions, view your course schedule, and make appointments. Our website outlines more information regarding how to use Trac Cloud.

Will there always be tutors available for my particular course?
For Writing, all courses at all levels are supported by our tutors. For Content Tutoring, please use Trac Cloud to view the schedule of content tutors by following the instructions for making an appointment.

Will I always be tutored one-on-one?
The availability of one-on-one tutoring depends upon how many other students need tutoring. It is possible that there will be other students that will also need help.

What should I have for any session with the Learning Commons (virtual or in-person)?
Spend a bit of time preparing for a tutoring session so you are ready to tell the tutor what you hope to accomplish during the session. It is important that you have all the content from your class, including homework, notes, classwork, textbooks, and other course materials at hand at the start of your session. For Writing Support Services, make sure to bring the assignment sheet; you don't necessarily have to have part of the paper written as we can help you get started. You should be ready to discuss your questions and goals with the tutor at the start of your session.

Can I or my professors see my tutoring visits?
Yes. All students, tutors and instructors can access their particular visits log through Trac Cloud.

What subjects do you support?
You can get writing support for all courses. For content tutoring, we support many subjects; including accounting, biology, chemistry, computer science, economics, finance, and mathematics. Note: we do not support every course within these subjects. Please visit Trac Cloud to determine if we support your course. Follow the instructions for making an appointment, and you will be shown the hour when tutors are available for your course.

Do you have textbooks available?
Yes, we provide textbooks for many but not all classes for use while in the Learning Commons.
