Types of Student Organizations

There are a variety of different ‘types’ of student organizations on our campus. While we classify all types as “student organizations”, there are certain privileges and requirements that differ between the types. See the differences listed below:

Definitions

Registered Student Organization

Registered student organization categories include academic, coordinating, cultural, faith-based, fine and performing arts, honorary, media, political, recreational, residence life, service, and special interest. These organizations are responsible for their own goals, events and activities, and membership. Recognized student organizations are free to exist and disband. RSO organizations will complete registration and training but will not be eligible for Student Senate voting or funding eligibility.

  • Not eligible for funding from Student Government

SGA Limited

Organizations under limited status shall be represented in Senate with voting rights. Limited organizations shall be ineligible to request funds from the SGA. Limited organizations shall include organizations which have not satisfied the requirements outlined in Article VII, Section 1 of the SGA Constitution. The Executive Vice President shall create bylaws which govern the duration and conditions of limited status

  • Required to attend training, both fall and spring semester
  • Not required to program, but are encouraged
  • Eligible to vote in Student Senate and required to participate in Senate committees
  • Not eligible for funding from Student Government

SGA Funded

Organizations eligible for funded status shall be an organization which meets all formal written requirements as stated in the SGA Constitution and Bylaws. Funded organizations shall be entitled to representation in Senate and all standing committees through one voting member. Funded organizations shall be eligible to request funds from the SGA. Funded organizations shall be responsible for fulfilling all duties and obligations outlined in the Executive Vice President’s bylaws to maintain rights as a funded organization.

  • Required to attend training, both fall and spring semester
  • Required to host two programs each semester
  • Eligible to vote in Student Senate and required to participate in Senate committees
  • Eligible for funding from Student Government

Social Fraternities and Sororities

Social fraternities and sororities are chartered independently of Pace; this also includes any local chapters. These organizations do not operate under Pace's corporate umbrella and are only permitted to conduct activities on campus and receive services if they comply with all requirements and expectations set forth in the Pace University Guiding Principles, Fraternity and Sorority Life Relationship Statement, and their respective governing council’s constitution

  • Required to register each fall semester
  • Required to attend training, both fall and spring semester
  • Required to host two programs each semester
  • Are eligible for funding through their governing councils (IFC, UPC or UCC)

Media Groups

The Media Group Council is organized to develop and sustain quality student-produced media at Pace University. The Council is committed to protecting student freedom of expression and creating a supportive environment for student organizations in order to insure the production of quality material through responsible journalism, broadcast, and citizenship.

  • Required to register each fall semester
  • Required to attend training, both fall and spring semester
  • Not required to program but encouraged
  • Eligible to vote in Student Senate and required to participate in Senate committees
  • Eligible for funding from Student Government

Club Sports

A club sport is a registered student organization through which students interested in a sport or event may compete on an extramural, non-varsity level against other colleges, universities and other similar organizations. A full description of Club Sports can be found in the Club Sports Manual.

  • Not required to program, but are encouraged
  • Eligible for funding from Student Government

Honor societies do exist at Pace University but are not required to be registered with the Center for Student Engagement. For more information visit the Honors Societies webpage.
