About the Undergraduate Summer Internship
The Counseling Center at Pace University's New York City campus offers four undergraduate psychology summer internship positions each year. The goal of the training program is to provide summer interns with the opportunity to experience, under supervision, the diverse functions of a professional psychologist in a university counseling center. Training includes didactic seminars, scholarly research, outreach and consultation, and exposure to clinical work.
Dates of Program: May 22, 2024–July 26, 2024
Hours: Wednesday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Thursday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
We are unable to provide housing. Interns must have their own housing accessible to the NYC campus.

Eligibility
Candidates must be rising seniors enrolled in an undergraduate program in psychology or a related field. Rising juniors and students graduating mid-year will not be considered. Candidates should have a desire to earn an advanced degree in psychology or a related field. International applicants are eligible as long as they are enrolled undergraduates as noted above.
Pace students are not eligible for this internship.
Application Process
There is no formal application form to complete when applying for this internship. Submit the three items listed below to pacesummerinternship@gmail.com

- Curriculum vitae or resume
- One letter of recommendation (from a professor or employer in a field related to psychology). Recommendation letters should be sent directly from the writer to pacesummerinternship@gmail.com.
Applications will be accepted throughout January 2024. Applications received in December 2023 or February 2024 will not be reviewed.
Applicants who are selected for an interview will be contacted in March to schedule an interview.
Applicants will receive an email confirmation no later than February 09, 2024 if all three application items have been received. Please do not contact the office to verify receipt before this date.
Note: The internship is a part-time (20 hours: Wednesday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Thursday 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.), unpaid, volunteer-based training program. If you need a specific number of hours, or will need formal confirmation of your hours, for your university, please note this in your cover letter.

The philosophy of the Counseling Center is in keeping with that of Pace University: that each student is unique. The major responsibility of the Counseling Center is to help students realize their fullest potential for growth and development. To that end, we offer a wide range of services and programs. These include:
Individual and Group Counseling and Psychotherapy
Individual and group therapy services are offered to help students deal with personal, vocational and educational problems. Personal development workshops are also offered.Outreach and Consultation Services
Outreach and consultation services are offered to student groups, administrators and faculty to help ensure that the academic and social environments are conducive to student growth and development.For example, we conduct training programs for residence hall staff, crisis intervention management programs, as well as major, university-wide programs on multiculturalism. We also participate in Student Services and Faculty Council meetings, and in programs geared toward freshman studies and student activities.

Seminars
Summer-long weekly seminars include Clinical Interviewing, Therapeutic Techniques, Professional Issues, and Diagnostic Categories. Presenters from within and outside the Counseling Center present material in their areas of interest and expertise.
Consultation and Outreach
Outreach activities comprise an integral part of the services that the Counseling Center offers to the Pace university community. Through prevention and psycho-educational programming (outreach) efforts, interns will have an opportunity to plan an activity or create materials that address a particular population, issue, problem, or concern within the Pace University community.
Scholarly and Statistical Research
Summer interns participate in ongoing Counseling Center projects, which may include literature reviews, statistical database management, and/or scholarly writing.
Individual Projects
Each summer intern develops a presentation based on research in an area of their own interest that has relevance to the Counseling Center staff.
Screening Interviews
Summer interns conduct mock screening interviews of senior staff members roleplaying clients seeking treatment at the Counseling Center. Interns are taught the fundamentals of interviewing and mental status examination in a seminar format prior to these interviews.
Supervision
Summer interns receive one to two hours of individual and group supervision per week. Supervision is provided by a pre-doctoral psychology intern serving as the Training Director of the Summer Internship Program, as well as senior staff conducting research and outreach supervision within seminars. Summer interns are also encouraged to consult with doctoral interns and senior staff informally about specific areas of interest or professional development.
Evaluation and Feedback
Written evaluation of each summer intern's progress is conducted at the end of the summer by the Training Director. Summer interns actively participate in this process by responding to feedback, as well as by providing feedback about their experience throughout the summer.
