Activities and Student Life

Welcome to New York City! The ELI plans 5-7 activities per 7 week term that are directed at helping students learn about American culture, enjoy New York City, and improve their English skills. The ELI also coordinates volunteer opportunities for students to lend a helping hand in the community they call "a home away from home". The activities that will be offered during a session are all presented at the Welcome Luncheon.

Activities that ELI students can participate in include:

  • Broadway Show trips
  • Conversation Partner Program
  • Private, guided museum tours
  • Sporting events (NY Knicks, NY Yankees, NY Red Bulls, etc)
  • Xbox & Wii game nights
  • Film Screenings
  • Ice Skating
  • Food "Crawls"
  • Volunteer Service

New York City is one of the most exciting cities in the world.  Enjoy the view from the top of the World Trade Center or the Empire State Building.  Sail around the Statue of Liberty.  Visit world-class museums.  See a Broadway show or the Metropolitan Opera.  Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, along the High Line or through Central Park.  Eat food from around the world in Chinatown, Little Italy or Koreatown.  Shop in Soho, on Fifth Avenue or at the Oculus.  When you study at the ELI’s New York language center, all of this and more is at your doorstep.

Activities Calendar

Every month there is a full calendar of activities (PDF), with a mix of suggested things to do in New York and guided trips led by an English Language Institute chaperone. Many activities are free.  Email us for the current activities schedule.

Our Mission

The Student Life Programming at the English Language Institute (ELI) at Pace University is committed to promoting learning about American culture and gaining confidence in English outside of the classroom. We challenge our students to not only become involved in campus life but also to interact with New Yorkers through volunteer opportunities. Our activities help our students develop as leaders and support them in their efforts to make a positive impact on the New York City community – their new home away from home.

All ELI students are invited to join semi-weekly scheduled activities. A schedule and instructions for joining the activities are delivered to your Pace email.
