Weekday Intensive English Courses For Au Pairs

Pace University’s English Language Institute offers au pairs the opportunity to study in our weekday morning Intensive Program at a deeply discounted rate.

A limited number of seats are available at each campus. Some restrictions apply. Seats will be made available to au pair students following the placement of full-rate paying students. Those seats will be available on a first come, first served basis. Courses are offered at both New York City and Westchester campuses, although not all levels may be available at both campuses. 

Classes are 4 and 5 hours/ week and each session is 7 weeks (Spring and Fall) or 6 weeks (Summer).


Course Descriptions, Dates And Prices

The ELI offers Intermediate-Upper Intermediate level courses. It may take 7 or 14 weeks to complete each level (6 or 12 weeks in the summer terms).


Conversation And Listening

** Course offered Online only Fall 2020**

Improve conversational fluency and listening comprehension. This class focuses on communicating ideas in English. Audio, video and reading materials are used for conversation topics and for developing listening skills.

Earn 36 hours for 7-week course* (Fall and Spring terms) | 30 hours for 6-week course (Summer terms)

Dates:Fall II (October 13-December 4, 2020)
Placement Test: Online
Hours/ week: 5 (2.5 with teacher and 2.5 self-paced)
Days: Classes with teacher* are Wednesday. Students will work independently with instructor support an additional 2.5 hours per week.
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Location: Online
Au Pair Price: $295** for Fall and Spring terms | $250* for Summer terms

*36 hours available starting in Fall II 2020. All classes before Fall II 2020 will award 35 hours.

Grammar And Writing

** Course offered Online only Fall 2020**

Learn grammar in the context of your own writing and through controlled exercises from the textbook. Learn how to correct your mistakes and improve your writing by editing and revising your papers.

Earn 36 hours for 7-week course (Fall and Spring terms) | 30 hours for 6-week course (Summer terms)

Dates: Fall II (October 13-December 4, 2020)
Placement Test: Online
Hours/ week: 5 (2.5 with teacher and 2.5 self-paced)
Days: Classes with teacher* are Monday. Students will work independently with instructor support an additional 2.5 hours per week.
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Location: Online
Au Pair Price: $295** for Fall and Spring terms | $250* for Summer terms

*36 hours available starting in Fall II 2020. All classes before Fall II 2020 will award 35 hours.

Reading And Vocabulary

** Course offered Online only Fall 2020**

Learn different reading strategies and skills to increase vocabulary and reading comprehension. Read a variety of newspaper and magazine articles, novels and stories, and academic texts to learn how to apply these strategies and skills.

Earn 28 hours for 7-week course (Fall I, II, Spring I, II) | 24 hours for 6-week course (Summer 2021)

Dates: Fall II (October 13-December 4, 2020)
Placement Test: Online
Hours/ week: 4 (2 with teacher and 2 self-paced)
Days: Classes with teacher* are Tuesday. Students will work independently with instructor support an additional 2 hours per week.
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Location: Online
Au Pair Price: $235** for Fall I, Fall II, Spring I and Spring II | $200* for Summer I and Summer II

Social English

** Course offered Online only Fall 2020**

Develop the informal language and stylistic features needed for social interaction with their classmates and for a deeper understanding of their professors. The course focuses on interactions and language that is found in university lectures, materials and classroom/campus situations. Special emphasis is on learning the key differences in formal versus informal language use, vocabulary (idiomatic expressions, phrasal verbs, slang) and how language is used to express sarcasm and humor in American culture.

Earn 28 hours for 7-week course (Fall I and II)

Dates: Fall II (October 13-December 4, 2020)
Placement Test: Online
Hours/ week: 4 (2 with teacher and 2 self-paced)
Days: Classes with teacher* are Thursday. Students will work independently with instructor support an additional 2 hours per week.
Time: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Location: Online

Registration

All registration and payment for courses is done online.

Au Pairs and other Community Rate students may join Weekday Intensive English courses at a special rate by joining our Waitlist and finishing an online English placement exam. Our Admissions Team will begin contacting students 2-weeks before the session begins to confirm if space is available at the community rate. Students will have 48-hours to finish payment and confirm their registration at the special rate. Spaces are released first-come, first-served, to students who have finished both the Waitlist form and English placement exam. We encourage students to submit their Waitlist Form and English placement exam as early as possible as space is limited.
