Born and raised in Michigan, Emily received her Bachelor degree from Eastern Michigan University in 2012. After graduating, she moved to Richmond, VA to work as a freelance lighting designer. Deciding she liked barbecue too much to leave the south, she gained her M.F.A. from the University of Arkansas in 2017. She then moved to New York City to fulfill her duties as the Hemsley Lighting Intern. Recently named one of LDI’s 30 Under 30 Upcoming Designers, she continues to be a lighting designer in the city spanning opera, theatre, and dance—pursuing work that seeks to uproot dormancy the way only art can.
