Internships

Internships are a cornerstone of the Publishing program. Offered every semester, these credit-bearing opportunities connect students with top companies across the publishing industry—many of them right here in New York City.

With guidance from the internship professor, students apply directly to a wide range of publishing houses, literary agencies, and media companies. Once placed, students gain real-world experience while building skills in editorial, marketing, production, and more. Internship responsibilities vary by company, and while some are paid, others are unpaid.

To receive academic credit, students must enroll in PUB 699A: Internship I, typically working 16–24 hours per week during the fall or spring semesters. Summer internships follow an 8 to 12 week, full-time schedule. During the internship, students attend regular class meetings, submit reflective assignments, and begin developing their master’s thesis based on their internship experience.

Our students have interned at leading organizations such as

  • Simon & Schuster
  • HarperCollins
  • Hachette
  • Scholastic
  • Oxford University Press
  • Hearst
  • Meredith
  • The Writer’s House

Please make sure you speak with a Career Services adviser for further information on applying for internships or jobs.

The professors at Pace have a desire to see their students succeed which makes all the difference. Two semesters into the program I was able to intern with Simon & Schuster and immediately after was hired by Hachette Book Group and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without professors like Manuela Soares mentoring and advocating for me.
