Drafting, Lighting and Sound for Dance - BFA Production & Design for Stage & Screen

Joe Chapman is a theatre planner and lighting design in New York City. He earned his BFA from Stephens College in Design and later received his MFA in Lighting Design from the University of Connecticut. As a theatre planner, Joe works for Arup, a world-renowned consulting and engineering firm. He specializes in designing systems including performance lighting, audio-visual, theatre rigging, seating layouts, and integrating those systems with the architecture of the venue. Joe has designed systems in theatres and consulted on such projects as the Jerome Robbins Theatre, the Park Avenue Armory (New York City), Northrop Auditorium (Minneapolis, MN), and Isabel Bader Center (Kingston, ON). He continues to design lighting for productions at venues including the Flea Theatre and the Abingdon Theatre (New York), Strings Music Festival (Steamboat Springs, CO), and the National Center for the Performing Arts (Mumbai, IN). Joe is an Adjunct Professor at in the Performing Arts Department at Pace University where he teaches courses in computer drafting and lighting design.
