Experiences early in life have a lasting impact on later learning, well being, and success.
The Early Childhood and Childhood Education program prepares candidates to support the learning and development of all children (birth-grade 6).
This dual certification program leads to a bachelor’s degree and the New York State Initial teaching certificate in Early Childhood Education (birth-grade 2), and Childhood Education (grades 1-6).
The program can be completed on the Pleasantville or the New York City campus.
In addition to the major in Early Childhood and Childhood Education, candidates choose and complete a 30-credit concentration from one of the following areas:
LOTE (Languages other than English) (NY only)
The Early Childhood and Childhood Education program is considered a full-time program, and candidates progress through the program as a cohort, with required education courses offered in specific semesters. This means that the School of Education has a very high on-time graduation rate. It also means that candidates may not reduce their education program to fewer than four years of study. Transfer students seeking to major in this dual certification program should meet with a School of Education advisor upon admission to the University.
