Large Classroom with 2 Projectors and Multiple TV Displays

Mursion™ is an innovative mixed-reality technology that simulates educator experiences such as teaching, parent conferences and job interviews, through real-time interaction with digital avatars. This mixed reality environment provides opportunities to practice scaffolding and/or differentiated instruction in a variety of content areas. Participants can present or review lessons, use an array of instructional strategies and assess their own ability to engage students in learning activities.

Mursion™ provides teacher candidates the opportunity to develop their pedagogical practice in a safe environment that doesn’t place real students at risk. The use of the Mursion™ Lab has also been instrumental in teacher candidate transition to the classroom as well as in service teacher professional development.

Features

Mursion™ can be used in a number of ways, not only by pre-service teachers but also experience teachers and even administrators. Candidates can work on:

  • Classroom Management
  • Differentiated Instruction
  • Higher Level Question
  • Job Interviews Strategies
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences
  • And more...

Things To Remember Before Scheduling Your Session

  1. Gather all the information for your session(s). We need to know the date and time you are requesting, which avatars you want and what intensity level you are requesting.
  2. Request your session through the point of contact on your campus.
  3. Provide all materials when requesting a session.
    • Scenario Planner/Design lists your Scope of Work. It’s the basic plan for how you want your sessions to run, what your goals are, etc. Usually, your scenario planner will be the “plan” for all of your sessions for that semester. Sample
    • Basic Materials are limited to one or two PDF pages, 10 PowerPoint slides (under 10 slides), or a brief video (under 5 minutes for which you must provide a YouTube link)
    • Custom Learner Materials are any additional materials you submit that go over or above the amount of Basic Materials you are already allotted in your scope of work. There are additional charges for Custom Learner Materials because the more material you submit, the longer it takes your interactor to prepare for your session.
  4. We will confirm your session by sending you an email and/or an event invitation that you can save to a calendar.

Support

The hardware and troubleshoot is support by Educational Media on the respective campus. The faculty facilitating the avatar lab session is responsible for the connection and running of their session.

Common Tech Issues

Audio Settings

Make sure you test the speakers before starting your session. The settings for the PC and the setting in Skype should be configured to the same speakers.

Session Not Loading

The screen is stuck on the word Mursion. Work with the interactor – the most common fix is to restart your session.

Student Tracking Not Working

Kinect Camera is not tracking student moving in our classroom

  • Once you have loaded your session you press K on the keyboard to enable the motion tracking through the Kinect camera.
  • If that is not working check to make sure the USB cable is plugged into the computer and the power cable is plugged in.
  • If the tracking is still not working you can inform Mursion you would like to do manual tracking.
